Officer, Public Spaces & Events Reporting to the Director, Immediate Needs and Public Spaces, this position leads New York Cares’ efforts to enlist and direct thousands of volunteers each year in revitalizing parks, schools, and community gardens across New York City. These volunteer-led projects include painting community spaces, planting flowers, building and maintaining garden beds, creating murals, and removing invasive species. In addition, the Officer leads two of New York Cares’ annual events, New York Cares Day for Schools and the New York Cares Coat Drive. Responsibilities The Officer of Public Spaces & Events: Leads and supervises a team of program managers that take ownership for program design and implementation within their respective content areas; Directly manages New York Cares’ relationships with Impact Partners — community organizations New York Cares has identified for strategic investment and increased programming; and Serves on cross-functional committees within New York Cares to help drive organizational effectiveness and efficiency. The Officer sets clear and ambitious goals for managers’ project planning and execution, holds them accountable for exceeding those goals, and coaches and supports each team member to realize their full potential. The Officer builds, maintains, and enriches New York Cares’ relationships with community partner organizations, including schools, community centers, and social service agencies. The Officer works with and alongside the Corporate Relations Team to develop and implement strategic initiatives to engage individuals, corporations and civic groups in meaningful volunteer service, and helps plan and staff projects during surge times on an as-needed basis. The successful candidate will: Manage a team of direct reports, including full-time, part-time, seasonal, and intern staff Cultivate and maintain relationships with key partner agencies and corporate sponsors Oversee all aspects of project planning and execution, including community outreach, partner engagement, budgeting and expense management, capacity planning, staffing, training, site visits, project evaluation, and new project development Other responsibilities as assigned Develop best practices for project planning and execution and train/onboard new team members Conduct community outreach to identify new partner agencies for specific program areas Serve as department liaison for inter-departmental committees Represent New York Cares to funders and external audiences Qualifications Bachelor’s degree; 1 to 3 years of experience directly managing and evaluating full-time staff; Subject matter expertise in responsibly stewarding public spaces; Proven success in leveraging corporate resources for community impact; Demonstrated commitment to community service and volunteerism; Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; Strong administrative and organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task; Exceptional systems thinking and problem-solving skills; Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team; Familiarity with the New York City schools, parks, community gardens, and nonprofits; Salary Starting salary ranges from high 40s to low 50s.
