Director of Event and Venue Operations Department: General Management Location: Brooklyn, NY START YOUR APPLICATION BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters. The Director of Event and Venue Operations plays a vital role at the heart of BAM. The director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the institution related to live events and performances in all venues, inclusive of all BAM programming, Bookings, Rentals, live Cinema events, and other live events produced or presented by BAM as well as working closely with BAM's various Operations & Facilities departments to support the logistics of the BAM campus. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee and implement initiatives to maximize venue income, including rentals, bookings, and other methods in order achieve the yearly venue income goal, and increase this goal over time Special projects, including overseeing specific events, as assigned or required Ensure the smooth operation of all live events resulting in a positive experience for artists or clients, audience, and staff. Ensure communication between departments regarding event information so that everyone stays in sync and is working towards the same goals Manage the event department’s staff of the event operations and venue sales department to ensure that their job performance is meeting expectations, including but not limited to event oversight and timely and accurate budgets and contracting of assigned projects Ensure all contracts written by the department are created and executed in a timely fashion. Ensure a weekly interdepartmental meeting takes place as needed to ensure good coordination between departments and communication of event information across the institution. Run a bi-weekly operations meeting to make sure that all of BAM’s operational departments are in sync for both long term and short term projects Oversee events when required by scheduling. It is assumed this position will run a few large events each year Attend and/or assign coverage to oversee the operational on-site aspect of all programs (including dress rehearsals), produced shows, rentals and events to ensure an effective and positive experience and trouble shoot any problems that may arise at that time Provide general trouble shooting through the building, particularly interdepartmental communication problems and jurisdictional issues Head up institutional projects that require gathering of information and presented analysis as assigned by VP/GM. Minimum Qualifications Minimum 7 years of professional experience in the non-profit performing arts, ideally in some area of production (production, company management, general management) Knowledge of working with union labor Strong computer skills Experience working with, meeting and developing budgets Ability to write, read, and understand contract language Creative problem solver Project management skills Excellent leadership skills Consensus-building skills Highly organized An excellent facilitator Ability to coordinate many simultaneous projects Preferred Qualifications Some experience related to sales/rentals and/or booking of venues Salary: Commensurate with experience.
