Manager, Author Promotions and Special Events Apply now Location NY-New York (Flatiron) Classification Full-Time Description As the Manager, Author Promotions and Special Events you will be responsible for managing author in-store appearances and other in-store events through key contacts with assigned publishers and other organizations and vendors. You will interact with publisher teams and other PR contacts to request and schedule launch events, hometown events and maintain a competitive stance for events in major markets, as well as secondary and tertiary markets. Essential Functions • Responsible for all facets of event planning and execution including evaluating an event’s suitability, identifying the most advantageous market(s) and store(s) to host an event, and the ideal structure for the event (i.e. type of program and format, whether the event should be ticketed, whether food/wine or other merchandise should be included) to maximize traffic and increase sales. • Manage relationship with vendor partners including publishing executives, teams and other PR contacts to proactively pitch and design events including launch, hometown as well as events in secondary and tertiary markets and maintain a competitive stance for events in all markets. • Attend events as necessary to manage execution and interface with publishers and authors as the representative of the B&N Corporate office. • Compose creative event proposals (including marketing and promotion plans) to win business and secure multiple events with top-selling authors/artists. • Manage all facets and details of event planning and promotion –from proposal through execution –with store personnel and other key B&N Corporate departments and personnel. • Develop promotion plans for events that will increase attendance and raise visibility for the B&N brand in conjunction with key B&N departments such as Marketing, Creative, Social Media and Café. • Design in-store promotions to support events in coordination with store management. • Create, develop and execute creative events such as genre panels, fan meet-ups, thematic events performances etc. that will drive traffic to stores. • Develop partnerships and sponsorships with vendors and organizations that can supplement and enhance events for customers and build the B&N brand. • Research and identify creative advertising options to promote events and drive traffic in conjunction with stores and the Company’s advertising agency. • Control spend for advertising and event rentals to meet financial goals for the department and the company. • Support company marketing, business relations initiatives and branded programming such as Live at Barnes & Noble when necessary.
