You will: • Provide graphic design services to the Event Production Coordinator in the development of specialized materials, exhibit presentations, displays and visual branding in support of special events and new product development initiatives. • Provide design expertise and/or hands-on assistance as required throughout all stages of production from conception through the final installation of exhibit presentations and displays • Provide assistance as required during special events to ensure quality control of visual event presentations as required • Work in compliance with all health and safety regulations, the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario, and SLPC procedures and policies. HOW DO I QUALIFY? KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE You have: • Advanced knowledge of commercial art operations, materials and equipment to apply commercial art and associated functional practices and techniques to develop and design concepts for specialized materials, exhibit presentations and displays. COMMUNICATION SKILLS You have: • Strong oral communication skills to provide information over the phone, by email and in person. • Interpersonal skills and tact to deal with inquiries and request information with the ability to organize, track (and schedule action as necessary) the details collected. CREATIVE SKILLS You have: • Demonstrated artistic abilities in free-hand and technical drawing, painting, design and layout. • The ability to conceptualize and render design for three-dimensional projects, and assist in quality control of the accurate installation as required. • The ability to create and/or apply established branding throughout a variety of applications related to event displays, signs and props. COMPUTER SKILLS You have: • Advanced technical and up-to-date knowledge of computer hardware and desktop publishing software using Adobe CC programs (including Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Quark Express and Adobe Acrobat Professional) and other accessories (i.e. Wacom tablet). • Working knowledge of computer software used to animate exhibits with special effects (.i.e. timed sound and light presentations). JUDGMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS: You have: • The ability to research, organize and maintain digital and graphic resources, supplies and equipment. • Sound reasoning and problem-solving skills to determine what matters are urgent and should be given priority when performing a variety of different tasks with conflicting deadlines, and to prioritize work based on knowledge of subject matter or by discussing with supervisor. • Ability to review and evaluate operational procedures and recommend improvements to supervisor. • Ability to estimate labour, time and material requirements for in-house and out-of-house production. You will: • Under the direction of the Event Production Coordinator, provide manual labour assistance required for the development, creation, installation, crating and storage of specialized materials, exhibit presentations and displays in support of special events and new product development initiatives. • Assist the Special Events Officer with manual labour activities associated with on site special event setup and teardown. • Assist the Production team with the daily preparation and clean-up of production facility and special event field sites; hauling of garbage, supplies and equipment as necessary. HOW DO I QUALIFY? KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE You have: • Experience with minor carpentry, construction, lighting and painting to create, and install and teardown specialized materials, exhibit presentations and displays. • Experience setting up other standard event requirements including tents, lighting, fencing, signs, barricades, tables, shelving, waste and recycling receptacles, etc. • Experience in the safe operation of motorized gators with trailers, carts and flatbeds. • Working knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and other equipment required for the job. • The ability to work in compliance with all health and safety regulations, the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario, and SLPC procedures and policies. COMMUNICATION SKILLS You have: • The ability to follow oral and written instructions. • The ability to act as team leader to coordinate group setup/teardown with other department staff (carpenters, labourers, electricians) based on specialized knowledge of exhibits’ specific presentation requirements. • The ability to act as team leader to a student labour assistant(s). JUDGMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS You have: • Experience working as a contributing team member to reach targets and accomplish goals in deadline-oriented production and special event environments • Demonstrated creative problem-solving and research skills in the conception, development and execution of new ideas for specialized materials, exhibit presentations and displays • The ability to work independently under minimal supervision when required.
