Events Assistant - Athletics, Recreation Facilities and Services Job Number : A96.18 Classification : Events Assistant Date Posted : September 13, 2018 Employee Group : AESES Funding : Budget Hiring Range : $11.52 - $11.98 per hour + 6% vacation pay Position Category : Variable hour, continuing Probation/Trial Period : 910 working hours or six (6) months, whichever occurs first Salary Range : $11.52 - $11.98 per hour + 6% vacation pay Start Date : As soon as possible Weekly Hours : 0 - 34 Department : Recreation Services Location : Winnipeg, MB Job Type : Variable Hours Close Date : 09/20/2018 Professional Areas : Support/Managerial Employment Description: *This posting will be used to hire up to 6 positions* Responsibilities: Assists and/or directs the public and acts as usher. Issues and/or accepts entrance admission, sells tickets, accepts cash, reconciles cash and ticket sales and completes appropriate records. Sells food and beverage items, accepts cash, makes change, reconciles cash and completes reports. Sets up, positions and disassembles equipment and/or fixtures (ex. bleachers). Announces events, plays music, ensures audio and visual equipment is operating properly and returns equipment to equipment desk. Acts as scorekeeper for events including recording progress and statistics of event, obtains signatures of officials and completes score sheets and/or events summaries. Operates timekeeping equipment following established rules and procedures. Enforces safety regulations and controls access to facilities. Assists coordinators of recreation and athletic events as required. Records and compiles statistics for an event and may provide results to the press and/or media. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Qualifications: High school completion or equivalent. No previous experience is necessary as on-the-job training is provided. Familiarity with recreational and sports activities (particularly basketball and volleyball) would be an asset. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and the public. Ability to handle cash. Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records. Ability to work day, evening and/or weekend shifts. Capable of performing the duties as assigned.
