The Event/Communications Coordinator provides events, communication and project coordination for the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, including planning, design and research activities. Duties Arranges for, coordinates and supports events and activities related to the department (including scheduling, booking, catering, promotional items, volunteers etc.) Develops and implements communications and social media plans for department Develops the department identity and brand in order to raise the department’s international profile Researches, writes, edits and designs department promotional materials for audiences ranging from high school students to industry professionals Manages, designs and updates the department’s web presence, including social media, internet and intranet Hires and manages contract employees who provide additional content for promotional materials Collaborates with Development personnel to create fundraising materials Identifies and pursues media opportunities, including research, creation of press releases and media kits, and coordination with public affairs Acts as point media contact for department Provides media advice and training to academic staff as needed Conducts regular research, including surveys, meetings and focus groups, to establish department communication needs Contributes, researches and/or amends content to department website and other communications materials Provides administrative support for special projects (e.g. accreditation visits, etc.) and planning/scheduling courses and departmental events (e.g. lecture series, invited talks, student events etc.) Participates in other departmental activities and/or projects as requested Qualifications Minimum Diploma in Public Relations or related discipline; completion of education in Sciences, Engineering or other university-based education is an asset 2 years of related public relations/communications experience Demonstrated experience in events scheduling/coordination Previous experience in academic setting is an asset Experience in managing online environments, including social media sites and content management systems Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite programs Ability to prepare print-ready materials, including written content and graphic design How to Apply Apply Online Note: Online applications are accepted until midnight Mountain Standard Time of the closing date.
