Community Events Assistant/Train Driver - (18-82)     Job Title Community Events Assistant/Train Driver Organizational Unit Community Services -> Recreation & Culture Services -> Culture & Community Events Requisition # 18-82 Location Multiple Community - Newmarket, ON CA (Primary) Shift Type All Job Type Seasonal/Sessional Date Posted By 6/4/2018 Date Posting Closes 7/6/2018 Time Posting Closes : 5:00 p.m.   Category Recreation Career Level Entry Level Education Some High School Salary Payband/Range Events Assistant : $15.44-$16.38 Train Driver:$16.36-$17.36   Job Description Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer – Community Events, the Events Assistant is responsible to coordinate, monitor and organize activities, performers and attendees for community and special events.  Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer – Community Events, the Train Driver will be responsible for the safe operation of the Tim Hortons Express Train at Fairy Lake, and other locations as necessary, during various Town-sponsored events, i.e. the Festival of Lights; assists the hostess/host with the boarding and unboarding of passengers on the train. The candidate will be paid according to the role they are performing.   Job Requirements   Events Assistant:   • Previous experience coordinating, organizing and implementing events and/or activities. • Previous experience in overseeing others in a recreation environment/facility/event. • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. • Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends and during special events. • Current Standard First Aid &CPR-C certification required • Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.   Train Drivers: All of the qualifications of the Events Assistant above, plus:   • A valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license in good standing with the ability to undertake the safe operation of a train. A clean driver’s abstract satisfactory to the Town is required at the time of hire. • Familiar with Town of Newmarket and Town of Newmarket events. • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, Council Members, and the general public. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety legislation and associated procedures as it relates to ensuring the health and safety of patrons. • Availability to work flexible and split shifts, including week-ends. • Ability to work outdoors for up to 6 hours.
