Job Purpose:

The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for the development and creation of the content to generate awareness through various social media channels.  The Social Media Coordinator needs to be creative and proactive always looking at ways to generate new storylines and opportunities to increase awareness of the programs and events hosted at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada. 

The Social Media Coordinator will also be responsible to assist the Manager of Marketing & Communications to help deliver the marketing and communication initiatives and programs to achieve overall corporate objectives.

Please remember that due to the nature of our business, we work when others play in an attraction that is open 365 days of the year! You will be expected to be regularly available to work any shift during, before or after these hours of operation. 

Critical Accountabilities:

  • Continuously monitor and manage social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Trip Advisor, etc.)
  • Continually generate new social media content, storylines and ideas to increase awareness
  • Research work including:
    • Bloggers/journalists
    • Best practices
    • Content for RAC web site and other social media
    • Industry awards
  • Coordinate projects with freelancers (designers, videographers and photographers)
  • Coordinate monthly newsletter verbiage and e-blasts
  • Coordinate and analyze Facebook and Twitter Ads using Ads Manager
  • Compile media list and monitor media hits (Cision)
  • Respond to compliments or complaints from guests (emails, TripAdvisor, etc.)
  • Coordinate and supervise filming and photography requests as directed (sometimes outside of business hours)
  • Assist in creating communication guidelines for different internal programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years' experience creating and managing social media channels preferably in the tourism, hospitality or entertainment sectors 
  • Experience using Instagram, Tweetdeck, Facebook, and Twitter Ads Manager
  • Fun, creative, articulate, outgoing
  • Self-starter who is proactive and able to work independently 
  • Highly driven, team oriented and a quick learner
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Exceptional research and organizational skills
  • College/University diploma or degree in marketing or communications 
  • Interest in marine life and environmental stewardship a plus
