Communications and Events Assistant

Closing Date: April 27, 2018

Communications and Events Assistant
35 hours per week, Monday through Friday; some evening work may be required
Timeline: May 14, 2018 to August 31, 2018



The Communications and Events Assistant will be a key member of the administrative team at Brain Care Centre – Edmonton Region. Reporting directly to the Communications, Events, and Volunteer Coordinator, the Communications and Events Assistant will be involved in a wide range of activities that will help to support the annual Brain Injury Awareness Month Kick-off Breakfast and Conference, The Brain Matters Charity Golf Tournament, Brain Injury Awareness Month Campaign, and general administrative duties.

The successful applicant will gain a comprehensive background of the not-for-profit sector which will include special events planning and communications, marketing, working with volunteers, and administrative functions.


27th Annual Brain Injury Awareness Month Kick-off Breakfast and Conference:

  • Help organize the BIAM Kick-off Breakfast with the Event Committee
  • Track and report on ticket sales
  • Manage social media postings
  • Assist in general administrative duties as required

6th Annual Brain Matters Charity Golf Tournament:

  • Coordinate volunteers for the golf tournament
  • Solicit individual and team prizes
  • Liaise with Golf Course staff as required
  • Attend all Golf Committee meetings
  • Develop press releases to recruit sponsors and golfers
  • Track sponsorships, registrations, and donations
  • Communicate with golfers, sponsors, and prize donors
  • Arrange for sponsor and prize donor recognition
  • Prepare tournament materials
  • Manage social media postings
  • Assist in general administrative duties as required

Communications & Research Coordination:

  • Post messages and photos to the Brain Care Centre Social Media sites
  • Provide administrative and programming support
  • Conduct Viability Research for upcoming events
  • Prepare and mail out invitations and materials required
  • Maintain and update documentation related upcoming events
  • Respond to needs and requests of participants
  • Conduct research on best practices


  • Assist with coordination of other events as required (including Brain Injury Awareness Month Interagency Events)


  • Develop an understanding of the not-for-profit sector
  • Develop skills in fund raising development and volunteer management
  • Develop skills in marketing, communications, and special events planning
  • Develop skills in working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Develop skills in administrative procedures
  • Develop skills in working with the public


  • Must have been enrolled in post-secondary this last year
  • Must be returning to post-secondary in Fall 2018
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills – good communication skills
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Outgoing and professional
  • Drivers License with vehicle
  • A Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search must be completed
