POSITION OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Senior Venue Supervisor is responsible for ensuring events at The Globe and Mail Centre are executed in a professional, safe and successful manner, and that the client, vendor and guest experience reflects superb service standards. The Senior Venue Supervisor is scheduled on the event floor for client events, as well as for shifts to provide administrative support and inventory management for upcoming client events. Office hours can include preparing beverage orders, tracking inventory, training staff and vendors, responding to client inquires and coordinating event logistics for a range of business meeting and event bookings. The SVS ensures superb and timely client and vendor communication and provides an exceptional experience for all facility guests as required. 

The Senior Venue Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of event execution for assigned events at The Globe and Mail Centre and has broad authority to assure the event is successful from start to finish. Events include conferences, talks/forums, trade events, fundraisers, private and other social events. On event shifts, the SVS may be assigned one of two roles: Senior Venue Supervisor or Senior Beverage Supervisor. They function in an independent manner, and both are responsible for the supervision of all contracted staff, vendors, service providers and guests during an event. On the event day, the SVS acts on behalf of the company, overseeing the safety and security of guests and preservation of the facilities, promotes the highest service standards and is responsible for the overall success of the event.

The SVS will work closely with the client, event staff and vendors to ensure a successful event. Duties include supervision, training and support for all activities and event staff including bartenders, security guards, custodians, technicians, greeters, catering staff and other people servicing the event. They are responsible for monitoring safety and security, venue access and deliveries, enforcing policies and procedures, communicating and modeling guest service standards, trouble-shooting problems, responding to requests and communicating detailed report of the shift. The SVS is empowered to make decisions but has access to assistance from the Globe and Mail Centre Management Team. Good judgment, calm and thoughtful approaches to issues and quick response skills are essential in addition to professionalism, customer service and conflict resolution skills. 

The ideal candidate for this role as a Senior Venue Supervisor has a passion for events and is eager to collaborate with a wide range of clients in the planning of their business meetings, conferences and social events. With an exceptional attention to administrative detail and customer service focus, they are able to juggle multiple events and client requirements in a timely manner. The supervisor is eager to gain experience, and implement best practices in client services, meeting planning and event delivery. 

This is a full time position, with flexible and changing hours to accommodate for client events, including early mornings, evenings and weekends. 



• Provides supervisory training, direction, and coordination for event staff and vendor personnel for venue events as required.

• Assists with the coordination of event equipment, supplies, inventories and service systems. Outlines the proper setup and allocation of staff and resources for the successful delivery of each event. Coordinates deliveries, security, communications and way-finding.

• Contributes to event venue sales through responding to inquiries, educating and guiding potential clients on available services as required. Responds to client and internal requests for information and materials.

• Offers tours, and occasionally confirms bookings, including creating contract and invoices, payment processing and reporting. Maintains program systems, calendars and databases.

• Coordinates booking requirements including assisting with the scheduling and administration of event components, and ensures compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations.

• Performs on the floor accountabilities for assigned events:

  • Opening and securing premises before and after the event, facilitating the arrival and departure of all other contracted staff, vendors, clients and guests.
  • Ensuring that the venue is run according to the Event Agenda as set out by the Events Manager and AV Production Manager, in a safe, orderly and professional manner in accordance with the conditions of all employment, health and safety, fire, and building regulations, as well as Globe and Mail procedures that include, but are not limited to: liquor licences, fire code/fire lane policy, sound restrictions, health & safety requirements
  • Ensuring clients, vendors and caterers are fully informed of, and adhere to, policies and procedures
  • Communicating and organizing any special arrangements client’s request (within protocols)
  • Monitoring client/attendees reactions to find opportunities to exceed expectations and handle complaints, if any, ensuring client/attendees full satisfaction
  • Ensuring the security, organization and reporting status of stock, goods, equipment and facility rooms.
  • Ensuring operational and service procedures and checklists are completed and with attention to detail
  • Overseeing Beverage /Bar Staff. Preparing and ensuring cash float, deposit, reconciliation and unused drink tickets are deposited according to the cash bar policy and procedures, Providing and/or monitoring bartending services in accordance with laws, protocols and procedures
  • Providing and/or supervising set-up/tear-down duties as per the Event Agenda
  • Inspecting the preset space as per Event Agenda for proper event/equipment set up; assisting or rectifying any deficiencies with appropriate vendor/supplier
  • Ensuring that a high level of cleanliness, safety, and hygiene is maintained in the event venue, including kitchens, bar and washrooms, and identifying hazards and problems if they arise
  • Monitoring, supervising, and reporting on the work of the security, custodial and all other contracted staff/vendors
  • Ensuring waste is disposed of properly and clients, vendors and caterers adhere to the waste policies of the facility
  • Adhering to uniform requirements
  • Ensuring smooth changes of shift
  • Submitting an event report electronically after each event to the Globe and Mail Centre Management Team and reporting any incidents
  • Contacting the Manager on Duty in the event of an emergency
  • Confidently and professionally representing The Globe and Mail, and communicating our mission and mandate upon request
  • Other duties as required 


  • 3+ years in an events/hospitality environment, meeting the needs of a wide variety of clients and other stakeholders with superb organization and customer service skills, preferably in a dedicated venue.
  • Previous Event/Banquet Manager/Supervisor role an asset.
  • Must understand event, alcohol service, catering and hospitality procedures
