Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Events & Business Development. The Manager, Events is responsible for the general management of events from concept to completion for the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. Involving strategy, concise planning and coaching to a diverse group of supporting departments. This individual will develop and implements event strategies, overall event cycle management, manifests and guest experience tactics.

  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, budgeting and execution of assigned events.
  • Maintain administrative documentation including but not limited to; event manifests, detail sheets and all supporting pre and post event documentation.
  • Drive operational synergies with all internal departments and suppliers for event deliverables.
  • Build and nurture relationships with external contractors, clients and stakeholders.
  • Participate in customer site inspections and assist with the sales process when necessary.
  • Provide day to day supervision and mentorship to conversions leader to build master schedules and work assignments based on business generation.
  • Works with direct reports to review scheduled events and event complexity in order to avoid potential service challenges and failures.
  • Promote the services of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, Sales and Events Portfolio.
  • Champions all processes, policies and initiatives as established by the Sales and Events Business Strategy.
  • Identify all aspects of risk assessments and crisis management strategy working closely with safety and security personnel.
  • Meet regularly with the Director, Events & Business Development to provide operational updates on business initiatives, event deliverables and conversion allocations.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director, Events & Business Development.

Certification:

  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED certificate or equivalent (including CPR C).

 

Education:

  • Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or related field with related Event Management coursework.
  • Degree in related field or equivalent experience may also be considered.

 

Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum four (4) years progressive experience in business, event management & programming in the event and entertainment industry.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability and coaching skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and deadline-focused.
  • Able to work independently and with a multiple cross functional teams.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high paced environment.
  • Highly adept at managing client and vendor relationships; strong negotiations skills.
  • Detailed in planning and execution – pre-event, on-site and post event.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible to change.
  • Proficient with basic computer systems and MS office suite especially excel.

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • This is a Full-time position requiring a flexible work schedule including early morning, late night and weekend work based on business needs.
  • The work will be performed in an office setting and requires the use of standard office equipment and tools.
  • Must occasionally lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit and use hands/fingers to handle objects, tools and or controls.
  • Required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • This position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region. Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
