About Us

The Communications & Marketing Team within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has a mission to protect, promote, and enhance the reputation of the School locally, nationally, and internationally.

 

This is achieved through the development of strategic communications plans, the development, production, implementation and management of print and online publications, and communications vehicles, through social media, through strategic marketing and branding, through events and promotional activities, media relations, and the implementation of key strategies which engage students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors.

 

A secondary mission is to strategically plan, develop, implement, promote, and manage the flow of internal communication and information, while strengthening the internal culture of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry. It is through doing so that a greater sense of pride and belonging will be enhanced for all facets of the School and its various components through strategic communication initiatives and vehicles.

Responsibilities

The Events Coordinator plans and executes internal and external events at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, which are all critical to the mission and achievement of the School's vision, as well as goals related to the Strategic Plan and fundraising campaign. These events could include internal events such as research days; retreats and dinners; community events; alumni engagement activities; and externally focused large-scale education events, facility openings and awards activities.

 

The Coordinator will support all event activities, including all logistical and administrative tasks, and will assist with writing and developing marketing and communications materials supporting School events. This includes posters, invitations, web copy, speaking remarks and power point presentations.  



Qualifications 

Education:
 

Required: Undergraduate Degree in Arts, Humanities or Marketing

Preferred: A post-graduate degree in public relations and/or marketing


Experience:

Required: 3 years' experience in event planning maketing/public relations

Preferred: Experience working in large scale events

                 Experience working in an academic environment

 


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
  • Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes
  • Advanced computer skills including web-based tools (social media and Cascade) and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of approaches and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a respectful, constructive and collaborative manner at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers, and internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations
  • Proven ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize with an eye to consistently producing high-quality work and meeting deadlines in a demanding environment
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours and travel on occasion
