Manager of Annual Giving and Events

 

SUMMARY: The Manager of Annual Giving and Events is a key member of a dynamic and fast-growing Development and Communications team. He/she is responsible for crafting, managing, and executing the Woods Hole Research Center’s annual giving program and special events through a variety of communications and fundraising strategies. Reporting to and working directly with the Senior Director of Communications & Government Relations (SDC), the Manager of Annual Giving & Events (MAGE) will play a vital role in growing the philanthropic revenue for the world’s leading independent climate change research organization. In collaboration with the SDC, responsibilities include meeting or exceeding the annual fund and events-related fundraising goals for a portfolio of over 600 donors with contributions between $1 – $1,000. The position will manage the growth of annual fund contributions; develop and successfully implement special events; represent the organization to donors, vendors, and the public; and produce various fundraising-related collateral. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and willing to take complete ownership of critical duties.

Key Responsibilities:

Annual Giving:

  • Management and implementation of the WHRC’s Annual Giving solicitations from conception to execution.
  • Work with the SDC to establish long term goals and objectives.
  • Craft and implement annual fund campaign strategies including direct mail, e-mail, phone, and social media.
  • Work with SDC and colleagues to develop external content and collateral, including appeals, newsletters, social media, website, invitations, and others.
  • Design and implement a new sustainer or automatic giving program.
  • Ensure proper donor recognition and stewardship.
  • Assist in the identification of major gift prospects who are annual giving donors.

Events:

  • Coordinate and manage all WHRC on-site community events and selected off-site cultivation events
  • Identify off-site opportunities for WHRC speakers or to host WHRC events
  • Work with colleagues to craft and execute yearly community programming schedule at WHRC.
  • Work with Board member volunteers to plan events and develop invitation lists.
  • Prepare event collateral material, generate guest lists, coordinate leadership and staff, execute event logistics and manage follow-up.

Other duties:

  • Provide support to other WHRC activities and campaigns as needed.
  • Support the development and vibrancy of relationships with WHRC’s strategic partners.
  • Provide professional, quality customer service to donors, volunteers, staff, and other contacts.
  • Prepare data for the SDC and Board to share ongoing results.
  • Maintain all relevant data in Raiser’s Edge database include donor meetings, correspondences, actions, etc.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years directly relevant development experience
  • Knowledge and interest in environmental science/issues
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and fundraising prospect research tools is helpful
  • Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to interact with a wide range of constituents, including scientific experts and donors
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a dynamic team in a constantly evolving environment, with people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and nationalities
