Convention Services Manager CONVE01835 Posted : July 17, 2019 Full-Time San Diego San Diego, CA, USA Job Details Description Pay Range: $54, 789.53- $68, 486.91 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Meet with meeting planners to determine their needs and requirements in order to assist them with the successful implementation of their convention. Provide essential information on San Diego, its activities, attractions and available resources, relevant to the needs of each unique client. Offer suggestions and assist clients with confirming and contracting for additional overflow hotels, special event venues, and working with all other vendors in San Diego as required by the client. Responsible for managing client expectations as it pertains to site visits, promotional shows (at the location the year prior to the event taking place in San Diego) and other services as required to ensure client satisfaction and help build customer loyalty. Collaborates with the San Diego Convention Center’s housing partner to offer and manage housing services for SDCC clients. Work collaboratively with fellow SDCC departments and staff, as well as SDTA sales team, to provide seamless and effective level of service to client throughout the booking process, planning, and implementation of the citywide event. Establish and maintain relationships with local hotel and venue partners. Participate in appropriate pre-convention and post-convention meetings for clients. Support and assist other convention services team members with site inspections and other activity as required, based upon scheduling conflicts and client demands. Prepare, develop, and coordinate site inspection itineraries for meeting planners on hotel site visits, as required, and conduct all site visits while client is in San Diego for that purpose. Extend appropriate hospitality including attending evening functions. Provide San Diego promotional services at pre-determined promo shows, one year prior to hosting the same event at the San Diego Convention Center. This includes travel arrangements, booth contracts, space rentals, shipping of booth and promotional materials, etc. Perform other duties or projects as assigned by the Vice President, Sales & Services. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A.) from four-year college or university in Business, Facility of Recreational Management or Hospitality and Tourism Management; and four years industry, meeting planning or hotel experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Excellent communications skills, verbal and written, with emphasis on customer service. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with clients, vendors and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) preferred. All driving positions must have a valid, current California driver’s license (non-resident students and military must have a valid driver’s license from their U.S. state of residency) and a clean driving record. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent social and professional leadership skills in the area of client service. Strong project management skills with the proven ability to manage projects from start to finish, manage deadlines, prioritize and adjust as necessary. Ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance. Familiarity with San Diego as a meeting destination. Ability to collect, retain and stay abreast of current San Diego and industry events and be able to effectively share information back with the Convention Services team. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and to manage multiple accounts simultaneously. Ability to maintain a positive attitude under all circumstances. Familiarity with San Diego as a meeting destination is necessary. Ability to Travel at least 6 times a year. Ability to work evenings (at least 4 times a month) and weekends (at least six times a year) as the need arises Business travel requires ability to work remotely.
