What we need As part of a Canada-wide team of staff and volunteers, the Events and Partnerships Intern is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of Parkinson SuperWalk in Ontario and the coordination of other special events and fundraising activities as directed. Specifically, the position is responsible for working with the Events and Partnerships team to ensure that key Parkinson SuperWalk locations and volunteers are well supported throughout the summer, while building strong relationships with associated walkers and volunteers. A grass roots, volunteer driven, event Parkinson SuperWalk relies on a network of volunteers to coordinate its events throughout the country. The focus of this role is to support volunteers and staff in execution of their events, including support with marketing, promotion, materials development and event logistics. Your contribution As the successful candidate, you will bring your “can do” attitude, high professionalism, and superior customer service or organizational skills to fulfill the following responsibilities: Support of Toronto SuperWalks and Toronto SuperWalk Committee • Work with Events and Partnerships Associate to implement the Toronto walk strategy to support walk growth. • Participate as an active member of the Toronto SuperWalk committee, filling vacant roles and supporting volunteer members in executing their tasks. • Ensure that the SuperWalk web-site and the on-line registrations are updated for Toronto; manage walker requests related to the web site, data management; update website as required. • Ensure Manager and committees are kept up to date on the Toronto walk(s) activities. • Identify key constituents requiring recognition i.e. walkers who raise $1000+ and maintain strong relationships with all Toronto Walkers. • Support the execution of all planning and logistical concerns for the Toronto events. • Work with Events and Partnerships Associate to order, prepare and develop all requisite Toronto walk sites promotional and logistical materials. • With support from Parkinson Canada’s events team, implement key strategies to be focused on throughout each year for Parkinson SuperWalk to grow. • Support Ontario volunteers and committees as required. • Participate in Monthly Parkinson SuperWalk conference calls and other development opportunities. • Support all planning and logistical concerns for walks as needed, in accordance with supplied event character, criteria and critical path. • Prepare and develop all requisite walk promotional and logistical materials with support from Parkinson Canada’s events team. • Work with other staff to ensure efficient and timely distribution of necessary materials. • Update walk information on website as required. Support of Marketing Initiatives across Canada • Manage online event posting and promotions campaign. • Develop and distribute promotional materials as required. • As part of a media support team across the country, conduct interviews with participants in local markets and integrate content into media release template. • Pitch approved story drafts to local media as assigned. • Track pickup of pitched media stories. What is needed to succeed in this role • Completed or pursuing post-secondary education in a related field. • Fundraising experience, with a proven track record in event management. • Experience in not for profit sector an asset. • Experience in volunteer management is required. • Familiarity with key event management concepts (maintenance of critical path, etc.). • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. • Excellent research, analytical and written skills. • Computer literacy, including MS Word and Excel. • Demonstrated ability to be flexible. • Outgoing, enthusiastic and positive. • Ability to travel within Ontario. • Bilingual (French and English) an asset.
