Learning and Special Events Planner (3-Year Term) The Learning and Special Events Planner position is responsible for managing and supporting the organizational needs and the design, implementation and evaluation of special events that facilitate the strategic plan of WSD. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: The Learning and Special Events Planner position is responsible for managing, supporting and implementing a variety of specific events in support of division initiatives and other various duties. Provide expert advice and consulting services in the design, development, and administration of various events in support of WSD staff and students Partner with applicable departments to support and plan events for staff and students Liaise with vendors for event-related matters on-site Manage and maintain communication and updates between on-site team and division team Ensure supervision of participants and attendees and provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants by adhering to division safety standards and assisting with emergency procedures as required Analyze events to propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process Leads the design, development and implementation of programs, policies and strategies tailored to meet the goals of the WSD Provides consultative services to the schools regarding development of unique events for their students and staff Plans and leads short- and long-term planning for division events Prepares budgetary recommendations that meet departmental goals and provide for effective management of resources Works closely with event sponsors to develop Project Management plans and facilitate timely execution and ongoing maintenance of event timelines, milestones and deliverables. Creates and maintains the detailed project plans and proactively manages issues, risks, changes to scope, and budget to ensure project objectives are achieved Provides leadership to the project team Provides direction and support during the implementation of the event Other related duties as assigned Qualifications: Post-secondary education in a related field Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in event planning, project management, or a related field Excellent planning, administrative, organizational, project management and budget management skills Ability to plan strategically, initiate action and achieve desired outcomes for multiple initiatives in both political as well as culturally sensitive environments Ability to work as an integral team member and provide leadership to teams and working committees, achieving goals using consultative and collegial processes Ability to communicate sensitive and complex information to a wide variety of audiences.
